Thomas Throop

Bespoke Furniture for Considered Interiors

Thomas Throop is a furniture designer-maker and founder of Black Creek Designs, specializing in bespoke furniture for high-end residential interiors. Since 1992, the studio has collaborated with interior designers and private clients to create custom, made-to-measure pieces that are architecturally informed, refined, and enduring.

Each piece is designed and fabricated in the Connecticut studio, allowing for a highly collaborative and flexible process from concept through completion. The work is grounded in proportion, material clarity, and restraint—designed to support the architecture and overall interior rather than compete with it.

Black Creek Designs works across custom tables, seating, casework, and built pieces. Close dialogue with designers ensures that each commission responds precisely to its spatial, functional, and aesthetic context.

Thomas Throop’s work has been exhibited internationally and is held in significant public and private collections. His background includes formal training in England at the John Makepeace School, Parnham College, which continues to inform a disciplined, material-led approach to design and making.

Black Creek Designs welcomes collaborations with interior designers and private clients seeking thoughtful, custom furniture for residential projects.
